Letters THP indicates automaker Peugeot cars equipped with a turbocharged petrol engine falling into the category of downsizing.

The first engine bearing THP (Turbo High Pressure) appeared in the 207 GT. This engine was the result of collaboration between PSA Peugeot Citroen with BMW Group. The cooperation mentioned was the creation of a modern automobile power unit with a very solid performance and fuel economy. The basis of a new series of engines has become a four-cylinder engine with 1.6-liter with sixteen technique. Smaller volume does not mean less power. Conversely, this engine was built in the spirit of downsizing uses a variety of modern technologies and seamlessly achieves 150 horsepower .

THP engines including use of direct gasoline injection, twin-scroll compressor, valve train with two camshafts and variable timing . With all these innovations achieved despite the smaller engine cylinder capacity of a very decent performance parameters.

Direct fuel injection
One of the most important innovation is the introduction of a new engine with direct injection, which allowed to increase performance and reduce fuel consumption and production of harmful gases. The engine uses a mechanically driven high pressure pump with two pistons, which supplies fuel injectors under 120 bar pressure. Fuel is injected directly in the combustion chamber is divided more evenly, improving combustion and operation of the engine.

Twin-Scroll turbocharger
Twin-Scroll turbocharger works just like a conventional turbocharger, but it is divided into two parts. Each part performs one pair of cylinders. This solution helps to increase the efficiency of the turbo at low engine speeds. This is significantly suppressed the turboefekt, a delayed response to turbocharger accelerator pedal. The result is extra flexibility of small-engine.

dual gas inlet to the turbine blades reduces turboefekt

Oil pump with controlled power
Oil pump with controlled flow provides only the necessary amount of oil for optimal functioning of the drive. Thanks to the controlled flow of oil consumption is reduced by approximately 1%. The lubrication system also adds heat exchanger water / oil, built into the filter, which controls the thermostat to ensure faster heating and temperature control at the right level, even at high stress.
