In 2009 the automaker Mercedes-Benz new car for experimental research in the field of vehicle safety. This unique car was called the Mercedes-Benz ESF. The new security features that brought this project, included the Spotlight Function.

Experimental Mercedes ESF 2009 had special headlights that have a Spotlight feature to dazzle oncoming traffic. In the main headlight is mounted infrared camera when the camera detects the approaching car, the computer evaluates the position of lightning and electronics dims the LEDs to dazzle oncoming car.

Spotlight The system can work the other way round, if infrared camera detects a potential threat hidden in the dark (eg pedestrian on the verge), active reflector to focus it to the driver noticed him as soon as possible.
