EDS system is electronically controlled differential locks. This system motorist appreciated especially during the winter months and when driving on roads with poor adhesion. EDS přibrzďuje spinning drive wheel and allows the transfer of power to the wheel with better adhesion conditions.

EDS automatically přibrzďuje spinning wheel drive axles to compensate power ratio in both rounds. Using the sensor system ABS controller constantly monitors and evaluates the rotation of the two drive wheels. If the speed difference of left and right wheels corresponding to wheel slip, it sends a control unit and signal system ABS / EDS spinning round closing. Lightweight braking (protáčejícího in) round moments to settle both rounds and the resulting effect is similar to the mechanical differential locks.

Principle:

Assuming the same ratios of adhesion between the tire and around the driven axle has a differential as large torque M A on both wheels. If the friction between wheel and road sufficient to transmit it to the road wheels all powered torque. Each round is 50% of the total transmitted torque.

While on the one side of the road more slippery surface, a surface with low adhesion, determines the size of the transmitted torque wheel with a lower coefficient of friction. Axle differential always distributes drive torque in a 50:50 ratio, and if one wheel to transfer drive torque can be reduced to the size of the transmitted torque to both wheels simultaneously.

If adherence to cross the border on one wheel, the wheel starts to spin. This means that transmits less torque. According to the adhesion conditions can even go to zero (surely you know the situation of the winter road, when one wheel is placed in the drifts and the car is completely stopped the climb). 50% of zero is zero again, so not a good round on the surface can not transmit the power and start the vehicle. All power seems to disappear through the spinning wheel.

Now begins a system of electronic differential locks. Control Unit EDS starts spinning round přibrzďovat, which produces braking torque M B, which helps match the ratio of torque to the axle. Now, thanks to the wheel braking torque with a higher adhesion to transmit power to the road and does not slip.

The advantage of EDS is the most used in winter, for example, when starting with one wheel on the verge of snow or driving to climb the slippery road surface on one side.
