French automaker Citroen unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in 2008, the first WRC racing car with hybrid drive. The base car are made up of special WRC Citroen C4, accompanied by an electric motor and batteries.
The first sharp kilometers swallowed Citroën C4 WRC HYbrid4 on Rally de Portugal in 2009. The first hybrid in the history of competitive sport piloted the factory team duo Dani Sordo.
The car is built on the basis of special C4 WRC. In addition to the normal gasoline car unit is equipped with a lithium-ion battery and electric motor of 125 kW. Articles 990 lithium-ion battery, motor and other components of competitive special weight increased by 150 kilograms. The entire hybrid system developed special Citroën Racing and riders can choose from four forms of propulsion. If the car goes only to the internal combustion engine, the car behaves like a normal rallyeový special. Second, it is possible to switch on the regenerative braking, which recharges the battery. The third choice may be purely electric traction to be applied mainly in the service zone and crossings among special tests. The last variant of a competitor may combine the power unit and motor gasoline. This connection brings additional 300 Nm of torque.

Citroën engineers point out that the car is still only a concept, but thanks to him is a Citroën ready to environmental constraints, which will certainly come in the future. With a hybrid drive has a new special competition by 40 km long driving range and 30% lower fuel consumption.
