BlueTec is the name for the new technology from Mercedes-Benz, applying new and environmentally friendly diesel engines.

In the autumn of 2006, the Mercedes-Benz production of the first vehicles with BlueTec. This pioneering technology has significantly reduced emissions of nitrogen oxides. Mercedes-Benz E 320 BlueTEC has become the cleanest diesel car in the world. Addition, its consumption versus comparable gasoline engine has dropped by 20 to 40 percent.

BlueTec system for its function requires the fuel additive known as AdBlue , which is tanking in a special separate tank. AdBlue refueling substance is seamless to the driver as AdBlue is non-toxic and odorless liquid. AdBlue can be refueled from the stand at petrol stations as well as diesel. Special stand with AdBlue is already a common part of many gas stations and new ones are continually added. Range per charge will vary according to the AdBlue tank size. Generally speaking, the 25 liters of diesel consumed seems to 1 liter of AdBlue . For passenger cars, tank even enough for one service interval!

Principle:

An essential component of catalytic systems for diesel engines are particulate filter and oxidation catalyst . Chemical reactions occurring in the oxidation catalyst removes exhaust fumes, unburned hydrocarbons (HC) and carbon monoxide (CO), converts it into carbon dioxide and water vapor. The Mercedes-Benz BlueTec exhaust system adds the stack (adsorption) SCR catalyst . The catalyst converts most of the nitrogen oxides into nitrogen and water vapor that is injected every two minutes substance AdBlue (urea).

Particulate filter connected between an oxidation catalyst and SCR catalyst , separates from the exhaust gases carcinogenic particulate matter known as soot. The DPF is made up of silica compound, which creates a porous structure similar to bee plástvím. Once in a while to raise the temperature of exhaust gases and solid particles nachytané burn.
